Whats in My August Birchbox

This is my August Birchbox. The theme is Beauty School Supply Kit which fits in well with going back to school for some. This doesn't really fit well for me since I'm not in school but I guess for those who are it's cute. The yellow outside is a fun change from the usual pink. Instead of the usual card they gave us a square booklet. It says,

"We all remember the excitement of back to school shopping and the thrill of stocking up on fresh notebooks and pens. This month, we're helping you refill your beauty supply kit with must-try essentials and new products that will take you through the fall. Plus, we've put together a Beauty 101 series to ensure that you ace every class. Read on, and have a great semester."

Here is what the inside of the box looks like when I opened it.

This card describes a charity that Birchbox has gotten involved with. Birchbox is donating 15% of the proceeds from the Birchbox Shop to Pencils of Promise, with the goal of building a school in Central America. They are donating a minimum of $25,000.

The first thing that I noticed in the box was this Shick razor. I prefer the Shick Intuition razors so I'll probably give this to my mom. I think Birchbox has changed the extra to Birchbox finds. Here is what the card says,

"We scour the high-end beauty world for products you need to try. Like right now. But we also keep an eye out for affordable finds that will improve your day to day, like this new razor by Schick. The water-activated serum moisturizes skin while you shave, and the innovative oval-shaped design hugs tricky areas like knees and ankles. We're addign this trial to your usual sample haul because we think you'll love it."

Next in the box is the Osmotics, Blue Copper 5 Firming Elasticiy Repair. It retails for $58. You get .5 oz. Birchbox says, "Take a proactive approach to anti-agining with this advanced copper-infused serum."

I love the blue color of this cream. This has a beautiful blue color, a nice lightweight consistency that absorbs fairy quickly into the skin. It also didn't feel sticky on the skin which I like. The smell is a nice spa like cream which I enjoy. I am excited to try this sample out and have never heard of this brand.  I would use this at night since I think its a bit heavy for daytime for me.

Also included in this box was the SHU UEMURA Art of Hair Mositure Velvet Norishing Shampoo and Nourshing Treatment. The shampoo full size retails for $48 and the conditioner for $58. At those prices this has to be the best shampoo and conditioner in the world. I doubt it will be that good but I'll try and keep an open mind. The shampoo is described as, "Rich in nourishing camelia oil, this ultra luxe shampoo replenishes dehydrated strands." The conditioner, "This treatment leaves strands soft, manageable, and sweet-smelling."

The next sample is the new Viva La Juicy La Fleur Eau de Toilette .05 fl oz spray. The full size is $70 and it is described as, "This modern scent is a feminine blend of wild berries, manadarin, and waterlilly."  I really liked this smell a lot for Fall. It has a fruity smell but not too summery fruity so I think this could work well for Fall. I like this so much I might end up buying it. It's youthful without being too young. I think people 30 plus could pull this off for work as well as 30 under for work/school.

The final sample is the Caldrea Hand Soaps in Sea Salt Neroli. A full size is $10.50. This is described as, "A delicious-smelling soap loaded with aloe vera and olive oil to soften hands." I have no idea how this smells but I'm not at all excited about this. This would have to smell pretty darn amazing for me to purchase it. I like my Bath and Body Works hand soaps and am very happy with them. No interest in this at all.

So that's it for my August Birchbox. I'm excited about the perfume and face cream. The rest of it I could do without. The hand soap is a total fail for me. When would someone actually use these samples? I guess if you were somewhere and they didn't have soap they could come in handy. What did you all think of your August box? Dud or amazing?

  2. Mine was pretty different too - I did get the Shu Uemura cleansing oil shampoo but I actually already owned it. I also received the razor - though I was not too keen on the juicy couture fragrance. Do you belong to the julep maven program? I love, love, love that!

    1. I don't belong to Julep Maven. I just picked up the gel system. We will see how that goes. I also plan on testing it out with my regular nail polish. Will keep you posted. Julep makes great color polishes though.
