Tarte LipSurgence Holiday 2012 Collector's Set Swatches, Photos & Review

Before the Sephora VIB sale ends I wanted to share with you all two of the Tarte holiday sets that I picked up. This post will be about the LipSurgences and the next one will be the blush set. I picked up this limited edition set last year at Sephora and really fell in love with it. It's just too good of a deal to pass up. One LipSurgence sells for $24. In this set you get 5 for $34 which comes to $6.8 for each month and even less with the 20% off. These have in them Vitamin C, Vitamin E, Peppermint Oil, and Jojoba Seed Oil which really is great for your lips. They are free of Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic Fragrances, Petrochemicals, Phthalates, GMOs, and Triclosan. 

I like these lip pencils from Tarte because they are easy to use and don't dry out my lips. It's also nice that you do not need to sharpen these which makes them super easy to use on the go and just throw in your bag. These feel very light on the lips and aren't sticky. Even if you only love two of the colors in the set its still really worth the price. You can give these as a gift and they would make a great stocking stuffer. I do feel like the colors in this set are a bit similar so that would be a small compliant of mine but I still really am glad that I purchased it.

The LipSurgences come in three finishes of which are either a tint, matte, or luster. A tint means it is a sheer non-shimmery color, mattes are more opaque and more pigmented, and a luster is also sheer but much more shimmery. I prefer the tints and mattes the best and I don't like shimmer or glitter in my lip products.

Enchanted- This is a sheer rose color. I love this color a lot for Fall. This is my other favorite one next to sweet. This is a tint finish. This color is super wearable and great if you are looking for a rosey/berry lip for fall. It feels super light on the lips too.
Elite- This is a sheer melon color. This is definitly a warmer orange lip color. I do find it wearable but not one of my favorites. This is a tint finish.
Escape-This is a very sheer baby pink color with shimmer in it. This is like sweet but only lighter and more pink. This is also a luster finish and barely shows up at all on my lips. This is my least favorite color of the set.
Sweet-A sheer light pink color with definite shimmer in it. It comes across almost slightly frosty on the lips. This has a bit more of a peach undertone to it. It's the second most sheer color. This is a luster finish.
Exposed-Is very similar to the exposed blush but for you lips. It's a rosey nude color with a matte finish. It's looks natural on the lips and would probably look amazing with Exposed blush. I wore this color today and really enjoyed it.

I will do an updated post at some point as I have a feeling I'm going to be picking up some more mattes in the near future. I really enjoy that finish the best. They last the longest but don't dry out my lips too bad. I recently also picked up Lively which I will need to do a review on. I saw Lauren Conrad wearing it and contacted her makeup artist to find out the color and have fallen in love with it.

Overall I recommend checking out this set if you have a small collection and are looking to grow it, if you love pinks, if you love Tarte, or if you just like a good deal. I'm happy with 3 of the 5 colors but could do without the luster finishes. I'm just not into the sheer and frosty look. I would be curious to hear what you all think of this set if you picked it up?
