The Urban Decay Naked Basics Eyeshadow palette was released very recently and has been advertised as an all matte palette. The palette is $27 and you get six full sized eyeshadows. This doesn't come with any primers or brushes like the other Naked palettes. I don't mind this though because it helps make the palette cost less money. Some of the colors are exclusive to this palette and some you can find elsewhere. For the month of December, I currently running a giveway of this palette.

Many Urban Decay fans have really been looking for an all matte palette as an alternative to the Naked and Naked 2 palettes. These colors are very basic so you might be able to find some similar colors elsewhere but because the quality of Urban Decay is so great and the packaging on this super portable I knew that I had to pick this up. The packaging has a bit of a rubbery texture (not as rubbery as Nars) but because it's not black it shouldn't get too dirty.

The mirror in this palette is huge which makes it great to keep in your makeup bag or for travel. I like this mirror better than the one in the original Naked palette and the Naked 2. This also has a snap closure unlike the previous palettes. Sometimes I find it hard to open but I do think its very secure. The packaging is very minimal and sleek. If you hated traveling with the naked palettes you will love this.

The colors in the palette are all matte, except the first color Venus which is called a demi-matte. All of the colors are super creamy and not chalky. They are the typical great quality Urban Decay shadows. Here is a description of each of the colors:
Venus is a soft, off-white demi matte. Venus is unique to this palette. This color comes off a bit frosty to me. I prefer matte highlights under my browbone so I wish they would have put a matter highlight color in but this might be nice in your inner corner to brighten up your eyes.
Foxy is a very light yellow/beige matte. This color is also found in the Naked 2 palette.
W.O.S. is a very light pinky nude matte. Walk of Shame is exclusive to the build your own palette. This color is very similar to my skintone. I really enjoy this as an all over lid color to just even out my lids.
Naked 2 is a rosy taupe matte. Naked 2 is unique to this palette. This is the type of color that I typically reach for as a crease color for everyday.
Faint is a warm dusty brown matte. Faint is unique to this palette. This color would work great for a deeper crease color or in the outer corner for a more natural look. I found that this color seemed to be similar to MAC's Charcoal Brown. I might try this in my eyebrows to see how it looks. If it works that would be amazing for travel.
Crave is a deep dark brown/matte black. Crave is unique to this palette. I like that this is a black/brown since I think it gives a softer look for everyday. I think you could use this for a smokey eye and also as an eyeliner. Great color with great pigmentation.

So for those of you who are wondering if you need this palette, I think that this would be an optional palette. For me I had to have it but if you have Naked and Naked 2 then you may not need this palette. For $27 I felt that it was worth it for six full sized eyeshadows. If you are truly a neutral eyeshadow lover then yes you need this palette in your life. The quality of these shadows is superb and well worth the money. Also depending on your skintone this palette may not work as well for you. I am pretty fair and all of the colors work great but if you are of darker skin tone then I think a few colors might not show up on you. Something just to think about. What do you all think of this palette? A must have or skip it? Do you prefer matte or shimmer colors?

The most attractive element of this palette is the size. I have similar shades in my collection, but my freestyle palettes are bulky in comparison (even the one I custom made!). Do you know if this is permanent? I could see myself getting it in 1-2 years, after I've finished some of my neutral mattes.
ReplyDeleteGreat post! I have had my eyes on this for a while and the swatches look so great and vibrant! :)
