Tarte LipSurgence Collection Swatches, Photos & Review

I've gotten quite a few requests to do a post on my Tarte LipSurgence collection. I have 7 of them and gave a few to my mother. These sell for $24 each and you get .1 oz of product. They come in three different types including lip tints, matte lip tints, and lip lusters. I counted 23 colors on Sephora's website. They always are coming out with limited edition shades though in holiday boxes or on places like QVC. There is a enough variety that I think there is a color to fit everyone's preferences.

Sephora describes these are a a natural shimmering flush while moisturizing and softening the lips. They are a twist up stick that claim to deliver a surge of moisture on a cellular level for naturally plump appearance. These also have peppermint in them that feels minty when you put it on your lips. These do not contain parabens, sulfates, synthentic fragrances, petrochemicals, phthalates, GMO's, and triclosan. I don't think that these make my lips any fuller but they also don't dry them out which is always a plus in a lip product.

My biggest pet peeve with these though as much as I love them is the caps. They are the worst caps ever. Almost all of my are cracked and once they crap I'm not sure what I am going to do. I think I may save caps as backups when I finish one up since they are made so poorly. For a $24 product you would think they could make sure the caps don't break. One another thing I don't like is that some of the colors have some slight glitter in them. When I say slight I really mean slight but I prefer no glitter in my makeup products. I would just recommend swatching them if you don't like glitter. Usually the lusters are the ones with it I find.

Tarte LipSurgence Collection Swatches, Photos & Review- Perky and Lucky
Left to Right: Perky Lip Tint and Lucky Matte Lip Tint

Lucky is described as a matte light pink.I really like this matte formulation so if you are into mattes this would be one to look into to. This is a healthy looking pale pink color on the lips.

Adored is described as a light pink. This is just a pretty baby pink color on the lips.

Perky is a peachy/pink color. I believe that this color only came in the set I got since I can't find it anywhere on their website or on Sephora. This is a very natural looking color on the lips.

Glitzy is a nude/natural color. This color was also in the set I purchased. This is a great my lips but better shade.

Dazzled is a pink/red color that is more sheer. This was part of the set I got as well. This is great if you want to wear a red but don't want to have to worry about checking on it often. A very low maintenance red.

Flashy is a fuchsia/bright pink that also came in the set. This is a beautiful bright pink. I would rock this on a night out for sure.

Frisky is described as a bright pink. This is more of a daytime bright pink for me. I would wear this to work and wouldn't feel like my lips were doing all of the talking.

These are very different from the Revlon Kissable Balm Stains. These do not stain your lips as much and therefore are not as long lasting. They are though more moisturizing and more glossy looking on the lips (unless you get the matte ones). They are also pricier than the Revlon ones at $24 for each one. The good news is that Sephora has on sale a holiday set of 5 for $34 ($120 value). That's a great deal. I picked up one last season and was very happy. They sell out fast though so make sure to pick one up when you can. I really enjoy these a lot and would like to pick up more in the future. Do you prefer these or the Revlon ones? Do you love both?

  2. Thanks for the helpful review and swatches! It's nice to hear about the perks and downfalls of the different finishes, as well as the comparison to the Revlon Balm Stains! Perky, Flashy, and Frisky look especially pretty :)

    1. I think I still prefer the balm stains over these but these are nice as well. Good to have options depending on my mood I guess.
